This original lino print is part of my series of South East London Rooftops, all printed by hand in my studio.

This series of printed landscapes captures South East London’s residential streets, reimagined through the dramatic lens of sunset. These works are a tribute to the familiar rows of terraced houses, chimneys, street lamps, and rooftops, silhouetted in deep contrast against vast, luminous skies.

By framing local streetscapes in the fleeting glow of twilight, I explore themes of memory, belonging, and the quiet poetry of urban life. The sunsets, often exaggerated in colour and scale, are not only visual backdrops but emotional landscapes, evoking warmth, nostalgia, and the bittersweet passing of time. Though rooted in a specific place, the scenes speak to something universal: the way light can reshape our perception of even the most ordinary surroundings.

This body of work invites viewers to pause and reconsider the overlooked corners of their own neighbourhoods, and to see the beauty that emerges when the day slips into night.

Up where the smoke is all billered and curled

'Tween pavement and stars is the chimney sweep world

When the's 'ardly no day

Nor 'ardly no night

There's things 'alf in shadow

And 'alf way in light

On the rooftops of London

Cool, what a sight
